The applications for sensor-based networks are drastically increased in the last months and a lot of standards have been developed for them. The 6LoWPAN standard permits to use IPv6 on a network making it compatible with a lot of communication protocols.

In this simple project we have equipped a Cosino Mega2560 board for 6LoWPAN communication (see Using 6LoWPAN on Cosino) with an Atmel R21-xpro board running the RIOT operating system.

Even if the application is very basic we use the AES encryption anyway in order to secure the data transfer where the Cosino board waits for the user input and then sends its commands over the UDP transport protocol to the R21 board. In turn, the R21, turns on/off its user LED labelled LED0. On the other side, when the button labelled SW0 on the R21 board is pressed, it sends back to the Cosino board which in turn report it to the user..
